News for the Week

From Donna:

Sorry to start our News for the Week on a serious note. Have you hiked to Sperry Chalet in Glacier National Park, or overnighted there? On Thursday afternoon, August 31, 2017, the historic lodge burned down due to the Sprague Fire. The Glacier National Park Conservancy is spearheading fundraising efforts, although it’s too early to know the National Park System’s plan for rebuilding it.

And, of course, we have the unfolding tragedy in Houston. Have you seen Johnny Jett’s awesome Hurricane Harvey resource page? And there’s Hurricane Irma to worry about next. If you’re planning a vacation at a hurricane-prone destination during hurricane season, buy travel insurance that specifically covers natural disasters. And make sure that you’re medical evacuation membership is up-to-date. We use MedjetAssist .

Looking for a fall boomer vacation? How about the Oregon Coast? #vacation #fall #Oregon

We’re headed to the Oregon Coast for a smoke escape. But it’s probably going to be hazy due to Oregon’s wildfires. Oh, well, at least we can walk on the beach.

Always Hungry update: Alan and I will be roadtripping to the Oregon Coast this week. Of course I intend to stay on the Always Hungry plan. That’s why I’m taking small packets of no-sugar-added peanut butter and apples to snack on in the car. It could be my lunch in a pinch. And I’ll throw in a big bag of unsalted nuts to go with gas station coffee, to which I’ll be adding half and half (no more of those sugary creamers for me). Thanks for letting me stay accountable by reporting my progress here. If you have questions, send me an email.

From Nicole:

Happy September, everyone! Even though I love a good sun-shiney summer, fall is definitely my favorite time of the year—especially when it comes to travel. This autumn, I’m hoping to make it to Spain’s white pueblos in the south. I planned a trip last year, but unfortunately we had to change our plans. But, this time, I’m not letting this bucket list item slip away so easily!

If you’re not signed up yet for our monthly travel newsletter, get on it! September is all about fall travel and October’s topic will feature our favorite cruise destinations from around the world!
