Königsplatz was a key part of King Ludwig I’s dream to turn Munich into a German Athens. The square was modeled on the Acropolis in Athens and the three main structures represent the orders of Classical Greek architectural style, Doric, Ionic, and Corinthian. Part of a planned development for the expanding city, Königsplatz was to be the center of visual and performing arts in Munich.
