Fishing with Dad to Make Dreams Come True

Father’s Day is supposed to be a day for honoring all the dads out there, but for us dads, I find it becomes a day of contemplation and taking stock of progress.

Like a lot of fathers, I have so many wishes and dreams for my kids — to appreciate their West Indian heritage, to value other people’s unique qualities, to relish travel, to feel like global citizens, and yes, to be able to fish for their lunch. But as a friend of mine was fond of saying “hope is not a strategy.”

So, for all the dads out there not just wishing or hoping, but actually fighting the good fight to shape a better next generation, we raise our glasses to you. Because you know it’s not enough just to wish you were here.

Happy Father’s Day. Cheers!
