On Christmas Day families, friends and visitors
will gather for the famous Champagne Party in
Nelson’s Dockyard on the island of Antigua.
Nelson’s Dockyard Christmas Champagne Party has been named in the New York Times as one of the (5) best Christmas events in the world.
(ˆ◡ˆ) The party gets underway around midday with drinking and dancing to live music, and ends when the last man or woman falls!
Approximately 500 bottles of sparkling wine and champagne are served ice cold out of an old wooden dinghy filled with ice. Party goers have around eight different varieties to chose from, and all the proceeds are given to charitable organizations on the island.
Nelson’s Dockyard was once the naval base for the Royal Navy, and is one the best preserved places of living history in the Caribbean.
Today the marina houses some of the worlds most luxurious super yachts, and offers a variety of shops, cafes and restaurants.
After the Dockyard Christmas celebration, the next two big events are Nelson’s Pursuit Race, and Nelson’s Dockyard Old Year’s Night Party.
The race is an annual re-enactment of Lord Nelson’s pursuit of the French fleet in 1805. The slowest boat to enter the race starts first and carries the French flag, with the remainder of the fleet representing the British in hot pursuit attempting to capture the French flag and claim victory.

Once the race is finished the party gets underway back on shore at Cooper & Lumber Store Historic Inn to welcome in the New Year with lots of food, live entertainment, and fireworks display.
